PLAYFULNESS

Last weekend I decided to play with the beauty of the Cabbage Butterfly.  When I was staying with my sister and her husband in Merritt the other summer, and out for a walk in the Nicola Valley, I found the butterfly lying in the gravel.  The bright yellow stood out against the small gray stones.   The four paintings are very simple.  I used acrylic and let the paint travel from the brush strokes and then highlighted with charcoal.  But they felt like they needed something else.  My daughter was visiting me and she said she really liked them.  When she was out, I decided I was going to look through my envelope of words and phrases and found ones that I liked and placed them with the butterfly.  And there the playfulness rested--until next time.
